Lilith is not a physical body but a mathematical point, calculated from the Moon's orbital mechanics. She moves through the zodiac relatively quickly, spending approximately 3-4 weeks in each sign and about 9 months in each house. Lilith is calculated using the mean lunar apogee based on Meeus astronomical algorithms. The calculation determines the average position of the Moon's farthest point from Earth, which moves steadily through the zodiac over a complete cycle of approximately 8.88 years.

The formula uses the Julian Date and century number to compute the mean longitude of the lunar perigee, then takes the opposite point (180 degrees away) to find the apogee. This gives us a precise zodiacal position that can be mapped to a sign and degree.

Note that there are two versions of Lilith: Mean Lilith (based on the average orbit) and True Lilith (which accounts for the Moon's actual irregular motion). This calculator uses Mean Lilith, which is the most commonly used version in astrology.
